"It could be the white chewing gum lying on the black asphalt. I find inspiration in everything, even in what might seem like nothing. A painting can start with a composition, a color palette, or a texture I like. I apply layer upon layer of paint, and the result often ends up being something completely different from what I initially imagined."

S. L. Tholén

After completing a bachelor's degree in Art and Dissemination at Oslo and Akershus University College (now OsloMet) in 2014, I have been selling my paintings in the private market. In recent years, I have also participated in several exhibitions in the local area.

In March 2025, I moved into a new studio in Tomter, inner Østfold – this time in collaboration with the furniture store Home of Moxie, run by a close friend. This has been a long-time dream for both me and Hanna. We’ve often talked about creating something together, where her furniture and my art can complement each other. Finding a space in the local area that accommodates both a studio and a furniture store feels absolutely amazing!

I have always had a strong interest in interior design and work consciously to ensure that my paintings fit the room they are meant to hang in.

I paint abstract works in various sizes, mainly using acrylic and medium on canvas. I build up the paintings layer by layer until I achieve the expression I’m looking for. In my paintings, you will always find different textures, strong contrasts, but also calmness and harmony. A painting should be exciting, yet pleasant to look at – and it should fit into its surroundings.

My paintings are available for purchase both here in the online store and at Home of Moxie. You can also commission custom artwork or arrange a visit to the studio outside of the store's opening hours.

The studio in Tomter also has a dedicated ceramics room, where I create ceramics and hold workshops. Ceramics has always been an interest of mine, but I’ve previously never had the opportunity to combine it with my art. That’s why it feels especially inspiring to now have space for both art and ceramics here.
